Anxiety and I? We go way back. Like, childhood besties who never quite broke up but definitely needed some space. It’s always been there in the background, but ever since becoming a mom—and a working mom with multiple jobs—it’s like anxiety decided to take center stage, grab a microphone, and belt out a full-on rock concert in my brain. 🎤😅
Did I respond to that email correctly?
Was my tone off in that meeting?
Did I follow the right process?
Do my kids have their snow pants for ski lessons? (Spoiler: probably not.)
Did I just make that person mad, or am I overthinking it?
The mental to-do list never ends, and I swear my brain is like 50 open tabs, and I have no idea where the music is coming from. So, how do I cope? I’ve tried a bunch of techniques (including therapy session, which I fully support by the way.. but who has the money for that these days ??) but these are my go-to anxiety busters that actually work (most of the time).
1. Walking (a.k.a. My Escape Plan) 🚶♀️
Nothing clears my mind like getting outside, breathing in fresh air, and reminding myself that the world is bigger than my to-do list. Bonus points if I go alone (rare) and throw on a good podcast to drown out my own thoughts.
Anxiety level before walk: 🚨🔥
Anxiety level after walk: ☁️💆♀️
2. Music & Dancing (Preferably in My Kitchen) 🎶💃
When I feel my stress levels peaking, I turn on my favorite “scream the lyrics and dance like a fool” playlist. There’s something about belting out a 90s throwback song that makes me forget my problems. My go to is Ironic, by Alanis Morrisette!
Bonus: If you have kids, they’ll either join in or look at you like you’ve lost it. Either way, it’s entertaining.
3. Stretching & Working Out (Even Though I’d Rather Not) 🏋️♀️
Listen, I don’t always want to work out, but I never regret it. Moving my body, getting my blood flowing, and releasing those magical little endorphins is one of the fastest ways to calm my nerves. Even if it’s just a 10-minute stretch or a quick session with my Gritin Resistance Bands (shameless plug, but seriously, they’re amazing).
4. Crawling into Bed Like a Human Burrito 🌯🛏
This is not avoidance—this is a strategic reset! There is something magical about wrapping yourself in a blanket, scrolling TikTok guilt-free, and pretending the world doesn’t exist for 20 minutes. Highly underrated.
5. Retail Therapy (Because Sometimes, Stuff = Happiness) 🛍
I’m not saying shopping solves my problems… but I’m also not saying it doesn’t help. Sometimes, that Amazon package arriving at my door does spark joy. #treatyourself
6. Wine. Because… Wine. 🍷
Look, I know there are healthier ways to manage stress, but let’s be real. A glass of wine after a long day? Absolute bliss. There’s a reason moms everywhere joke about this—it works.
