Moms, let’s be real—trying to get back to our “pre-kids” body (or honestly, just making an effort to feel semi-human again) feels like an Olympic-level challenge. Finding time? Ha! That’s a joke. Uninterrupted time? An even bigger joke. Time when you actually have energy? Now that’s just hilarious.
I grew up in the world of competitive sports, so working out has always been part of my routine. I knew the benefits, the importance of staying active—but fitting it into mom life? That’s been a whole different battle.
The Daily Chaos: Where’s the Time?
Morning routine: Get kids out the door, make sure they’re alive and somewhat presentable, slap on some mascara, and attempt to look like a functioning adult for work.
Workday: Meetings, deadlines, emails, oh my! Evening: Pick-up, dinner, bath, bedtime, and the never-ending “Mom, I need one more thing before I sleep!” routine.
So, at what point am I supposed to squeeze in a workout? Midnight? In my dreams?
The Gym? Nope. Hard Pass.
Thankfully, my husband and I built a home gym during COVID, and it’s been a lifesaver. I hate public gyms—sweaty equipment, creepy gym bros, and awkward conversations about protein shakes? No, thanks. I just need space to jump around, lift a few weights, and get it done.
But listen, you don’t need a fancy gym. A yoga mat, a few dumbbells, or even a solid space to do bodyweight exercises can get the job done. And if all else fails, just go for a walk.
Walking: The Underrated MVP
I love running (hello, runner’s high!), but injuries make it tough to be consistent. So, walking has become my backup plan. It’s simple, effective, and doesn’t leave me limping for days. If you’re just starting out, commit to 15 minutes a day. It sounds small, but after two weeks, your body will crave it. Before you know it, it becomes second nature.
Consistency is Key!
It takes two weeks for me to get into a workout groove and feel that momentum. But if I slack off for just one week, I feel sluggish, and it’s like all my progress disappears.
So, momma, I know you can do this! Start small, stay consistent, and don’t let mom life completely take over.
I’ll be sharing more of my fitness journey, tips, and tricks to stay active (while surviving motherhood). Let’s do this together! #wejustdoit
